Type H Back Pressure Valves |
Product Description
The Back Pressure Valve (BPV) is designed to block the pressure coming upstream from the well during the removal of the BOP and during the repair of the Christmas tree. It includes one-way BPV and two-way BPV. In most cases, you will use a one-way BPV, except when testing the BOP stack or the Christmas Tree.
The back pressure valve is unidirectional or bidirectional check valve that is installed through the tree, into the tubing hanger, and prevents well fluids from flowing out of the wellhead.
Our Cameron Style Type “H” Back Pressure Valves are used to hold well pressure when any surface flow control device maintenance is necessary. They are specifically used when the wellhead/Christmas tree is installed and the blowout preventer is removed. These valves are designed to allow the flow of liquids downhole into the tubing while preventing any from returning back to surface.
We have manufactured all Type "H" back pressure valves in-house,and they are available in many sizes and materials. We stock sizes from 1 ¼” OD all the way up to 6 11/16” OD in 4130 Alloy trim, 17-4 SS trim, and 718 Inconel trim.
Material classes (API 6A/NACE MR0175) are as follows:
- 4130 Alloy = AA, DD
- 17-4 SS = EE, FF
- 718 Inconel = HH
Working Pressures are 15,000 PSI on 1 ¼”-5” OD and 10,000 PSI on sizes greater than 5” OD.
Design Features
- Back pressure valve body with a rectangular rubber ring seal, make seal reliable
- Back-pressure valve plug use cone metal seal, and with O-Ring auxiliary seal, make seal reliable
- Compact structure and few parts, and also be convenient for site installation and maintenance
Installation or Removal
The installation or removal of BPVs can be carried out with either the tree or BOP stack nipple up on the tubing head.
BPVs can be installed with or without pressure on the tubing. If the BPV needs to be installed through the tree with pressure on the well, a lubricator is necessary.Enerpal can provide a Back Pressure Valve Lubricator Tool, which is easy to operate under pressure.
It's crucial to note that only personnel specifically trained by wellhead manufacturers should undertake the installation and removal of these BPVs.
Hydrostatic Testing of Back Pressure Valves
The hydrostatic test of back pressure valves is different from that of gate valves.According to the specification requirements, each back-pressure valve shall be hydrostatically tested by applying pressure across the full sealing bore of the back-pressure valve.
- Test pressure shall be the rated working pressure as a minimum
- A single pressure-holding period is required and shall be no less than 3 min
- The equipment shall show no visible leakage while subjected to test pressure
- Seals may be replaced after testing
